Position Overview: 

The Senior Tax Associate represents a challenging and dynamic opportunity in an expanding tax department of a global private equity firm. You will be integrally involved in the tax compliance process, where you will be exposed to complex deals, entity structures and tax transaction reporting and will work closely with Big 4 firms. Working alongside a tax team of five and reporting to a Tax Manager and the Director of Tax, this role will have a hand in the team’s growth and continuing to improve processes. 

 

Specific Responsibilities Include: 

 

Tax Return Preparation & Review 

Assist with of the tax return preparation and review process for over 300 entities, including: 

  • the calculation of year end K-1 taxable income estimates

  • the review of federal and state tax return extension calculations 

  • the preparation and review of the workpapers supporting the Fund tax returns, including the review of transactions to identify appropriate tax reporting. 

  • the preparation and review of the workpapers supporting the General Partner, Management Company and Co-Investment entities’ tax reporting. 

  • Review of K-1s prior to issuance and tax returns prior to filing 

Work with the Tax Team to: 

  • Evaluate opportunities for improving their current tax processes 

  • Coordinate the tax engagement with Big 4 tax preparers 

 

Other

  • Work with the Tax team and Fund Accounting as needed to obtain the necessary information related to investment structures and portfolio companies to ensure proper tax reporting on the tax returns

  • Respond to partners with K-1 questions and/or requests for additional tax disclosure 

  • Assist with FDAP withholding on Fund and General Partner distributions 

  • Assist in the preparation of ECI quarterly withholding 

  • Assist with FATCA and CRS analysis and filings 

  • Assist with Preparing & Reviewing Foreign Bank accounts for all entities and related filings 

  • Review federal and state tax controversy items 

 

Job Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three years of tax experience (private equity tax experience preferred)

  • Big 4/large firm experience a plus 

  • Strong knowledge of partnership accounting and taxation is a must 

  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office and complex Excel formulas 

  • Solid communication skills, both written and verbal 

  • Strong analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills
